Jullie Snelwegen! (2026) is a painting series composed of 16 gouache paintings on paper (21x12.5cm, 16:9 European screen ratio) is in essence a painted fragment of a film on a wall.

Some European highways look quite monumental when sitting in the driver’s seat. After driving for many hours on a monotous highway, a (digital) mirage appears.

The work is all but an ode to the past novelty of motorized vehicules but instead a reflection on how their use has become such a common experience that we often fail to see the unique details on the road ahead which may also reflect imperceivable cultural differences between countries.

The trip starts on the Polish highway, passing through Germany and reaching its final destination on the last row : Belgium.

This work was presented during the Rietveld Alumni x KunstRAI group exhibition taking place from the 22nd to the 26th of April 2026 in Amsterdam.
